Middle School Visits the Museum of the Moving Image

On June 5, SMCA students in grades 5-8 took a trip to the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, where they explored the history of movies, from the earliest days of film to present day.

Along with a guided tour, students got to create their own stop motion animations, and we also looked at TVs through the years—long before the age of flat screen!

Did you know that the history of the moving image includes video games? Our students were very happy to find out, as they got to play video games from past and present!

Our time at the Museum concluded with a screening of an episode of I Love Lucy. Not only did we get to watch the show on the big screen, but the students also discussed the topic of gender roles in the 1950s.

Every student received a free pass to the Museum so they can return over the summer!
