5th grade - (We've read chapters 1-29 of Maniac Magee)
Thursday: Finish the Characterization chart found on google classroom; Copy vocabulary words for part 2 into your notebooks due Friday 1/17/25
6th grade - (We've read chapters 1-13 The Giver)

Thursday: Vocabulary Sentences - create a sentence for each vocabulary word from this week's vocabulary list. Make sure the sentence has the word in it and clearly expresses the meaning of the word.
*We will begin reading Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, I have a PDF available for everyone to read from. If you would prefer, you may purchase the book or borrow it from the library. We will begin reading 1/27/25
8th grade - (We've read staves I-III of A Christmas Carol)
Thursday: Read Stave IV (page 69 on the PDF), in your notebooks identify 6 examples of figurative language used. Be sure to include the quote and the type of figurative language it represents as well as the page number it was found on.
Example: "Change, amongst the merchants; who hurried up and down, and chinked the money in their pockets..." p. 70 Onomatopoeia, the word chinked.
For the week of 12/09
5th grade - (We are up to Chapter 9 of Maniac Magee)
Thursday: Finish part two of Maniac Magee Legendary Moment assignment (posted on Google Classroom). Their sneakers were returned to them today to finish at home and bring in tomorrow.
Friday: Reading chapters 9-15 of Maniac Magee. If you are using the PDF on Google Classroom that is from page 15-31; if you are using a physical copy of the book that is from page 30-56.

Friday: Identify the following literary devices found in the text "The Gift of the Magi" Plot, Setting, Characterization, Symbolism, and Conflict in your notebooks.
We are continuing our short story unit, focusing on irony and point of view. The next stories will be by O.Henry. No purchases necessary, materials will be provided.
8th grade - (Stave 1 of A Christmas Carol has been read)
Thursday: Complete the analytical chart document found on Google Classroom.
Friday: Read Stave II, pages 27-44 of A Christmas Carol for Tuesday 12/17

Tuesday: Notes were copied about the genre science fiction and the author Lois Lowry, slides 1-8
Be sure to have the question about freedom versus peace answered. This can be found on google classroom.
Wednesday: Finish copying notes on Science Fiction (slides 1-14)

Friday: Answer the comprehension questions for The Giver chapter 1: Characterize Jonas, Lily, Mother, Father, and Asher. 2: Identify 3 examples in which the community is differs from our society.

Wednesday: Andre Stepankowsky 11/2022 "All of Us Should Read, Re-read Dickens's A Christmas Carol" was read in class. In their ELA notebooks, they will identify the Central Idea of the article and provide a quote from the text as evidence. Then they are to complete SOAPStone - Speaker, Occasion, Audience, Purpose, Subject, Tone.
Thursday: Copy the vocabulary words for Stave 1 into notebooks
Friday: Read Stave 1 and complete the questions on Google Classroom.
