Pre-K C learned a little bit about the Lunar New Year.
Ms. Colleen read, Dragon Dance, a Chinese New Year by Joan Holub.
The book taught the class about some traditions practiced during the Lunar New Year such as:
– Families often clean all the dust from their homes beforehand
– It lasts 15 days
– Celebrations include fireworks and parades
– Families often enjoy a big feast together
– Homes are decorated
– Families wear red to bring good luck
– Families exchange red envelopes with money in them for good wishes and luck in the New Year
We learned that this will be the year of the tiger. We also learned how to say Happy New Year in Chinese… Gung Hay Fat Choy!
And in Vietnamese…chúc mừng năm mới!
Warren shared some of his traditions with the class and brought in special red envelopes for all of his classmates.
